1.“合并”（（The Merge））是以太坊共识机制的重大升级，从 PoW（工作量证明）转向PoS（权益证明）。之所以被称为“合并”，是因为这个过程是将以太坊信标链（共识层）与现有的链（执行层）合并在一起，抛弃掉执行层的 PoW 部分。

“The Merge” is a major upgrade of the Taiwan Consensus mechanism, moving from PoW (Credit of Work) to PoS (Certificate of Interests). It is called “consolidation” because this process combines the Taiwan beacon chain (Consensus layer) with the existing chain (Execution level) and discards the Pow part of the enforcement level.

2.关于为什么要合并，其实主要就是回答以太坊为什么要转向PoS这个问题。
以太坊网络的拥堵、Gas费的高昂大家有目共睹。为了提升以太坊的性能，以太坊创始人V神提出了分片的解决方案，但是分片技术与PoW机制是相矛盾的，所以转向PoS是必须做出的选择。

The main answer to the question is why the Etherms are turning to Pos. The crowding of the Etherm network and the high cost of Gas is well known. In order to enhance the performance of the Etherms, the founder of Etherm V proposes a partial solution, but the technology is inconsistent with the PoW mechanism, so turning to Pos is the choice that has to be made.

在V神看来，相较于PoW，PoS是一种更优越的区块链安全机制：在相同成本条件下，PoS 提供了更好的安全性；PoS系统遭受攻击后更容易恢复；PoS比ASIC挖矿更去中心化。

In the view of V God, PoS is a better safety mechanism for block chains than PoW: under the same cost conditions, PoS provides better security; the PoS system is easier to recover after an attack; PoS is more central than ASIC mining.

另外，在碳中和的大背景下，PoS相较于PoW能够减少99%的电力消耗，解决被诟病的加密货币挖矿带来的能源浪费和碳排放问题。

In addition, in the broader carbon neutral context, PoS can reduce electricity consumption by 99 per cent compared to PoW and address energy waste and carbon emissions caused by the enigma of encoded currency mining.

3.以太坊合并可以说是加密货币历史上最重要的事件之一，因为对于以太坊这样一个正在运转的庞大生态和经济体来说，共识机制的转变无异于给正在飞行的飞机更换发动机。其重要性不言而喻，中间的风险也十分巨大，这也是合并一再推迟、反复测试的原因所在。

4.先给结论，以太坊在合并转向 PoS 机制之后通胀率会极大下降以至于进入通缩状态。对于ETH币价来说，供给减少或许是币价的有力支撑和提振。

4. It is concluded that the rate of inflation will drop so much that it will become deflationary when the Tails merge into the Pos mechanism. For ETH, the decline in supply may be a strong support and boost for the price of the currency.

5.对于一条区块链而言，一般硬分叉是很正常的升级，基本都是路线图里的计划更新，属于共识的范畴。但是有时候一些硬分叉并没有保持共识，社区的分裂导致多条区块链的产生，比如2016年以太坊因为The DAO被黑客攻击事件，分裂出Ethereum和Ethereum Classic两条链。

5. For a block chain, the general hard fork is a normal upgrade, basically a renewal of the plan in the road map, which falls within the realm of consensus. But sometimes some hard fork does not maintain consensus, and the division of communities has led to the creation of multiple block chains, such as in 2016, where the Etherium splits the Etherium and Etheeum Classic chain as a result of the hacking of The DAO.

近期社区讨论的以太坊分叉是指，以太坊即将合并转向PoS机制，以太坊矿工无法再继续挖矿，于是相关利益团体选择继续维护以太坊PoW链的事实，由于有不同的利益团体，所以可能出现多条分叉链。

The recent community discussion of the Ether Endpoint refers to the impending merger of Ether towards the PoS mechanism, the inability of Ether miners to continue mining, and the fact that relevant interest groups have chosen to continue to maintain the Ether Point PoW chain, which may result in multiple fork chains due to different interest groups.

6.对于普通用户而言，以太坊分叉或许并不是什么坏事，毕竟到时候会有分叉链的糖果（分叉币）可供领取。8月17日，BitKeep官方已表示将支持接入以太坊分叉链，还会推出方便用户领取和交易分叉币的产品新功能。

On August 17, BitKeep officially indicated that it would support access to the Ether fork, and that it would introduce a new function for products that would facilitate user access to and trade in the fork.
